The history of Bath Sailing Club stretches back over 40 years. Originating from the mutual interests of a couple of attendees at a local Navigation course, the club quickly drew in others with a curiosity about all things sailing, boating and marine. Early gatherings were held across the city of Bath – local pubs, the university, etc., – before settling into regular meetings at the club’s now longstanding venue, The Village Club, Bathford.
Outside of the sailing season, club members have been meeting on the second Monday in the month from September to April – the ‘Winter’ season.
The regular programme centres around interesting guest speakers who add to the evening’s general air of socialising with topics ranging from sailing stories, technical matters, excellent adventures and many ‘water-related’ activities. The club arranges training courses from time to time (eg RYA 1st Aid & Marine SRC Radio Certification etc), organises visits and holds a Cruising Rally in the early summer. These are generally on the South Coast and across The Channel, weather permitting.
Boat owning members often invite other members to crew for weekends & longer trips, and club members charter yachts from time to time.
Not all members are active boaters or boat owners; many simply enjoy the company and have a general interest in related activities.
Members pay a modest annual membership fee, but non-members are always welcome. Guest speakers frequently offer to waive fees and expenses in which case the club makes a small contribution to a charity of the speaker’s choice, and we encourage non-members to make a contribution too.
The club is a small, friendly & sociable organisation, bound together by a mutual interest in boats, boating and associated activities. We welcome new members! Come along and see for yourself.
